Course Descriptions

Advanced technology in digital based ultrasound equipment has progressed to the point where podiatrists can now afford the technology of diagnostic ultrasound scans in private practice. Diagnostic Ultrasound is rapidly becoming a first choice imaging modality for soft tissue pathology of the musculoskeletal system. Diagnostic ultrasound has several advantages over MRI in the extremities. From a cost containment perspective it is more affordable and can provide real-time dynamic imaging information that MRI cannot.

Since Diagnostic Ultrasound is a quick and gentle procedure, patients may be scanned in the acute inflammatory phase of their injury without discomfort. Also, the non-invasive nature of the exam and absence of radiation is preferred by most patients. This innovative seminar will introduce you to both the physics of ultrasonography and specifically its application to the podiatric medical practice. By the end of this introductory session, you will find yourself familiar with both the technical skills to perform an ultrasound scan and the ability to interpret the image.
